Use your time wisely

Many of us are aware of the story of David and Goliath, and  for those brought up in church, it was a Sunday school favourite.

I briefly want to look at 2 points which I think are important.

  • David was rejected by his own father. This can easily be missed, but in 1 Samuel 16 we read that Jesse brings his sons in a line for Samuel to anoint one as king (God had rejected Saul at this point)

He presented 7 of his sons to Samuel but God through Samuel rejected each one! In verse 11 it says, so he asked Jesse, ‘are these all your sons?’ ‘There is still the youngest, he is tending the sheep’ Samuel said ‘send for him, we will not sit down until he arrives’ and the rest they say is history.

In bible times being a shepherd was a low thought of job, in fact in Genesis 46 it talks about shepherds being detestable to the Egyptian’s! (I love how it was the shepherds who were told about the birth of Jesus 1st by the angels but that’s another story.)

Anyway, I digress the fact that Jesse didn’t present David before Samuel and left him tending the sheep, shows he rejected him and didn’t believe he was up to being king.

Now I’m sure he loved his son, which father wouldn’t, but actions speak louder than words (good job we have restoration centre to teach on father wounds!!!! And help bring healing) He was rejected by his earthly Father, but chosen by his heavenly Father. The bible says he was young, healthy and good looking, he didn’t have life experience, he wasn’t a warrior like some of his brothers but God saw his heart.

And that’s what God is looking at today, you might have it all together on the outside, or when you are at church- you may dance, shout hallelujah and amen in the preach, and yet your heart is far from God. Its easy to fool man but not God.

God, I believe is not looking for those who seem to have it all together on the outside. He is looking for ordinary real people who get it wrong and mess up. (Hebrews 11 prime example)

All He is looking for is your yes!!!! Will you give it Him today?

  • David was only able to defeat Goliath because of the time he spent in private with God! 1Samuel 17 vs 37 ‘The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the bear will rescue me from the hand of this philistine’

By spending time alone with God, he was able to align himself with Gods will and purpose and then step out into the arena.

So often we want to step out into the arena, and yet our training has consisted of Facebook, coronation st and a kebab. (yum)

This fast has been a great time to throw off the things that entangle, align ourselves with Gods heart and spend the time sitting at His feet and soaking in His presence. Jesus said I only do what I see the Father doing, I want that to be my moto going forward.

My prayer for each of us is that as we finish the fast on the 28th, we will each know the Father on a deeper level and be on fire for Him. And as the starts pistol fires, we will accelerate out of the blocks like never before and take the Gospel, healings signs and wonders to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth, and see the world set ablaze for Him!!!

On your marks, get set
