Becoming Transformed
Romans 12:2
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."
I've always loved the movie 'Transformers', there's just something special about fancy cars (and trucks) morphing into giant robots with assorted weapons. We are glued for hours to our seats watching the inevitable struggle between autobots and decepticons. It's interesting to see that all the battles are fought in their 'morphed' forms.
In the opening scripture, the word 'transformed' comes from the greek 'metamorphoo' from which we get the english term 'metamorphosis'. This is used to describe 'to change into another form'. This process is seen in the transformation of a butterfly. There's very little a caterpillar can do except eat and hide from predators. In order to become a beautiful butterfly that soars freely, the caterpillar has to come apart completely, change its state, and be formed into a new shape.
The renewing of the mind is not an intellectual conquest, it comes from a place of surrender. You see, God has put everything we need in us, but how much we achieve - how we walk, run, or fly with Him, depend on how much we are open to change. We can only fight our battles in our morphed states. A renewed mind transforms a person, a transformed person transforms a city.
This season we have a fantastic opportunity to be morphed. By the revelation of the Word by His Spirit, we can achieve levels we never imagined.
I pray that as we ask, and it shall be given to us; that as we seek, we shall find; and as we knock, and it shall be opened to us.
